The Basics of the Cash Flow Industry

Welcome to The Cash Flow Site!  This site was created to provide information to those interested in learning about the cash flow industry and some of the more common cash flows.  It contains information that could be useful to those interested in buying cash flows, to those looking to sell a cash flow stream, or even to those who want to explore the possibility of brokering cash flows as a new small business opportunity.

The Definition of Cash Flow

What exactly is a cash flow? 

At least in the so-called cash flow industry, a cash flow is basically an agreement between two parties that specifies who owes who money.  In the form of a contract document, a cash flow dictates that one party owes another party a specified amount of money over a certain amount of time.

Examples of Cash Flows

Even though there are more cash flows than what this site covers, below are what are some of the more common examples of cash flows and cash flow notes.

Business Notes - Documents that state that the new owner of a business owes the former owner of the business money over time for a part of the sale of that business.

Mortgage Notes - Documents that state that the new owner of a sold piece of real estate owes the former owner of that piece of real estate money over time for a part of the sale of that piece of real estate.

Structured Settlement Payments - Payments paid out at regular intervals by an insurance company to the winner of a court settlement.

Lottery Winnings - Payments paid at regular intervals by a lottery commission to the winner of a lottery drawing.

Invoices - Documents that state when and how much money one business owes another business for services already rendered or for products already produced and delivered.

Purchase Orders - Documents that state that a business owes another business money for goods that have yet to be manufactured and delivered.

Credit Card Purchases - Transactions within which customers owe a credit card company money over time for the ability to use credit to pay for goods and services.

Lawsuit Settlements - A transaction in which one party owes another party money for winning a lawsuit.

The Cash Flow Industry

The cash flow industry is the collective name for the buying and selling of the different kinds of cash flows and cash flow notes such as the ones listed above.
